The Moxy Chelsea – billed as Manhattan's newest "secret garden" – is on track to open in February.

Partially inspired by the Floral District on West 28th Street, the hotel will comprise 349 bedrooms, a fitness centre, restaurant, cocktail bar, and multiple lounges.

The project brought together three design firms: Rockwell Group, Yabu Pushelberg, and Stonehill Taylor.

Rockwell Group designed the ground floor food and beverage areas, the entire 2nd floor, and the entire 35th-floor rooftop, while Yabu Pushelberg designed the Putnam & Putnam flower shop, check-in area, and the guest rooms. Stonehill Taylor served as the building architect.

Guests at the Moxy will have the opportunity to participate in Reiki, yoga, sound bath sessions, and art exhibitions – some of which will be held in the Moxy's rooftop solarium.

The main visual attribute of the 37-storey building, however, will be its second-floor conservatory. Described as a reimagined "urban jungle", the space will contain a living wall of hanging plants, which will be encased behind an industrial-style facade of corten steel and glass.

Developed by the Lightstone Group, the new retreat will be the third Moxy Hotels venue to open in New York City. Another site is expected to debut in Midtown later this year.

Moxy Hotels – a division of international hospitality operator Marriott International – was founded in 2014 with the aim to provide a "millennial-focused" portfolio of boutique experiences.

The company now boasts a diverse portfolio of properties in 19 different countries.
