Created by South African interior designers Studio A, Chapter Roma Hotel is slated to open in Rome this March.

The 42-room hotel, which will launch on the Via di Santa Maria dei Calderari in Rome's Regola neighbourhood, will feature a bar, restaurant, and daytime market.

Housed in a brick building that dates to the 19th century, Chapter Roma will exude an industrial chic aesthetic, incorporating a number of exposed and weathered structural elements, such as fixtures resembling metal pipes, pendant lamps, and graffiti-decorated walls.

Speaking on the hotel's design, which has been described as a mixture of grit and glamour, Tristan du Plessis, principal and founder at Studio A, said: "We wanted to create a design that stood out for its youthfulness whilst still respecting the traditions of the city, by using local craftsmen, materials, and aesthetics for a large amount of the hotel, and collaborating with young local and international artists as well as furniture and lighting manufacturers to embed a spirit of rebellion throughout the design.

"The age of the building was both inspiring and challenging, but the old walls and ancient layout made sure that each room has a unique footprint which has lent us the opportunity to create varied and interesting room types."

In a statement, Marco Cilia, the property's owner and developer, remarked that it was "important that we put our guests in the Italian state of mind".

He added: "With Chapter Roma we're telling the first part of our story, we want to create a place where guests truly feel like they’re living like a local."

Chapter Roma – a member of the Design Hotels group – will be the first location in Cilia's recently created hospitality company, Chapter Italia.
