The Well at Hacienda AltaGracia, Auberge Resorts Collection has opened in Costa Rica’s verdant region of Pérez Zeledón.

The new tropical retreat represents modern wellness brand The Well’s first opening outside of the US and marks its third official location, joining its New York and Connecticut outposts.

The Well plans to grow its portfolio further with a second location in Central America as well as destinations in Florida, California, Texas, Colorado and the UK.

Set within a 180-hectare site in the Talamancan foothills, The Well at Hacienda AltaGracia has opened alongside a luxury Auberge resort featuring 50 Hacienda-style villa accommodations, a working coffee farm, organic vegetable gardens and horse stables.

Guests visiting the 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) wellness facility will all begin their healing journey in the same space – the retreat’s Casa de Agua green-house-style pool and heat therapy room overlooking emerald tree-top canopies.

This is where guests are invited to prepare themselves for their chosen therapy by journeying through a five-step purifying ritual combining a mud mask, hydrotherapy, thermotherapy and aromatherapy.

The Well at Hacienda’s AltaGracia’s spa facilities also encompass a hydrotherapy tub, thermal suite, curated retail experience and multiple ranchos for outdoor mindful movement classes.

Architecture and design firm Arconsa helped supply the spa’s wet and thermal facilities while interior designer Nina Gotlieb designed the space. Also on board was School House, which was appointed to realise the retreat’s curated retail experience.

Treatments are conducted in eight treatment rooms, supplied by Living Earth Crafts, Celluma and Hyperice.

Programming ranges from experiences inspired by Central American rituals incorporating local flowers and herbs to craniosacral therapy, as well as binaural sound therapy, night-time astrology sessions, yoga, forest-bathing and high-tech touchless technology to foster recovery.

Spa treatments are powered by skincare brand Ayuna, fresh local Costan Rican produce and The Well's own in-house line.

To complete the offering, The Well has curated a selection of restorative activities for guests, such as Equine Therapy, Lunar Gong Baths and Silent Breakfasts.

The Well's certified health coaches are also on hand to educate and support guests toward their individual health and wellness goals.

Coaches will conduct a thorough health history intake with guests before creating a personalised experience that can include recommendations for mindful movement classes, specialised appointments with practitioners, dietary support and integrated treatments and programmes.
